Hogar de Cristo

An international Jesuit organization, Hogar de Cristo provides affordable housing and various social services to the poorest of the poor, in particular to women and children. In the greater Guayaquil area, they have two centers that provide micro-financing programs, affordable housing, educational support, medical care, technical training, pastoral ministry, and various other social services. Volunteers from the Mt. Sinai Rostro de Cristo community work in multiple offices at Hogar de Cristo. The first, Salud (Health), includes performing basic medical procedures like taking blood pressure, and is involved with public health and community outreach, primarily focused on the areas of HIV, water hygiene, and nutrition. Volunteers also work in the Community Organization office, whose mission is to empower community coordinators in Mt. Sinai to advocate on behalf of their community to receive social services from government officials and other foundations. Lastly, Rostro de Cristo is also present in the Pastoral Ministry office, accompanying Christian Base Communities in recognizing self worth, dignity and value in the light and context of God’s love.
